Búvármaszk, also known as a diving mask, is an essential piece of equipment for underwater exploration. Its primary function is to create an air pocket in front of the diver's eyes, allowing them to see clearly beneath the surface of the water. Without a mask, the water would press directly against the eyes, causing blurred vision and discomfort due to the difference in refractive index between air and water.

The basic construction of a búvármaszk consists of a lens or lenses made of tempered glass or plastic, set into a flexible skirt, typically made of silicone or rubber. This skirt forms a watertight seal against the diver's face, preventing water from entering. A strap is attached to the skirt to hold the mask securely in place on the diver's head. Some masks also feature a nose pocket, which allows the diver to pinch their nose to equalize pressure in their ears and sinuses during descents.

Modern búvármaszks come in various designs to suit different needs. Single-lens masks offer a wide field of vision, while dual-lens masks are often preferred by those who wear prescription glasses, as they can accommodate corrective lenses.
