A bérlemény is a Hungarian term that translates to "leasehold" or "rental property." It refers to a legal arrangement where one party, the lessor or landlord, grants another party, the lessee or tenant, the right to use and occupy a property for a specified period in exchange for periodic payments, known as rent. This concept is fundamental to real estate transactions and personal housing arrangements in Hungary.

The terms of a bérlemény are typically outlined in a written contract, known as a bérleti szerződés, which specifies the duration of the lease, the rental amount, payment schedule, responsibilities of both parties regarding maintenance and repairs, and any other conditions agreed upon. These agreements can range from short-term rentals of apartments or houses to long-term leases of commercial spaces or agricultural land.

In the context of real estate, a bérlemény signifies that the tenant does not own the property but has a right to possess and use it according to the lease agreement. Upon the expiration of the lease term, the property reverts to the full control of the lessor, unless the contract includes provisions for renewal or purchase.
