Bågbågsvets, also known as arc welding, is a welding process that uses an electric arc to generate heat and melt the metal pieces together. The electric arc forms between an electrode and the base metal. This heat creates a molten pool of metal that solidifies and fuses the parts. A filler material is often used, which is also melted by the arc and becomes part of the weld joint. Shielding is crucial in arc welding to protect the molten metal from atmospheric contamination, which can weaken the weld. This shielding is typically provided by a flux coating on the electrode or by an inert gas.

There are several common types of arc welding. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), often called stick welding, uses a consumable electrode coated in flux. Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), or MIG welding, uses a continuous wire electrode fed through a welding gun, with a shielding gas supplied separately. Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), or TIG welding, uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and a separate filler rod, with an inert shielding gas. Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) is similar to MIG welding but uses a tubular electrode with flux inside. Each type has its own advantages and applications depending on the materials being joined, the desired weld quality, and the welding environment. Arc welding is widely used in manufacturing, construction, automotive repair, and many other industries for its versatility and strength.
