Byggskilt is the Swedish term for signs used at construction sites to communicate hazards, required actions, and access rules. They are used both on the site itself to protect workers and visitors, and on public roads around active building projects to warn road users and guide traffic.

Typical signs cover three function areas: varnings (warning) signs with triangular shapes or pictograms; forbud (prohibition) signs that restrict access or activities; information and instruction signs that provide safe routes, PPE requirements, or contact information. Construction area signage may also include directional signs showing entry and exit, and detour routes.

Materials and design: built to withstand construction environments; use durable materials like metal or weatherproof plastics; often colored in high-visibility tones (orange and yellow) and equipped with reflective elements for night visibility; signage should be placed at appropriate height and distance to ensure legibility.

Regulation and practice: sign usage is guided by national safety regulations and signage standards; the construction site's manager is responsible for installing, updating, and maintaining signs; unnecessary signs should be removed, and signs should be removed when the risk subsides.
