BRRI stands for the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, a government research organization in Bangladesh dedicated to improving rice production through scientific research. Based in Gazipur District near Dhaka, BRRI operates under the Ministry of Agriculture as part of the country’s national agricultural research system. Since its establishment, BRRI conducts breeding programs to develop high-yielding, pest- and climate-resilient rice varieties, as well as work in agronomy, disease and pest management, seed production, post-harvest technology, and agricultural extension.

BRRI releases new rice varieties and maintains a national rice germplasm collection. It collaborates with international partners such as IRRI and other CGIAR centers to share technology and knowledge. BRRI also provides training and technical support to farmers, seed producers, and extension services, helping to disseminate improved varieties and farming practices.
