Blomväxter, scientifically known as Angiosperms, represent the largest and most diverse group of plants on Earth. They are characterized by the presence of flowers and fruits, which are reproductive structures unique to this division of the plant kingdom. Flowers typically contain both male (stamens) and female (pistils) reproductive organs, and their vibrant colors and scents often serve to attract pollinators such as insects, birds, and bats. Pollination leads to fertilization, after which the ovary develops into a fruit, enclosing the seeds.

The evolution of flowers and fruits is considered a key factor in the immense success of blomväxter. Dicots, which include a vast array of plants like roses, oaks, and sunflowers, usually possess two cotyledons, net-like leaf venation, and flower parts in multiples of four or five.
