Bitmapowy is a Polish adjective meaning "bitmap" or "raster-based." It is used to describe image formats and related technologies that store visual information as a grid of pixels. Each pixel in a bitmap image has a specific color value, and the collection of all these pixels forms the complete picture.

Bitmapowych images are characterized by their resolution, which refers to the number of pixels in width and height. Higher resolution means more pixels and therefore a more detailed image, but also a larger file size. Common bitmap formats include BMP (Bitmap), JPEG, PNG, and GIF. These formats are widely used for digital photographs, web graphics, and various forms of digital art.

The term bitmapowy can also be applied to graphics processing and display, referring to hardware or software that manipulates images at the pixel level. Unlike vector graphics, which are based on mathematical descriptions of shapes and lines, bitmapowych images are inherently resolution-dependent. Scaling up a bitmap image beyond its original resolution can lead to a loss of quality, resulting in a blurry or pixelated appearance. This is because the software has to interpolate or repeat existing pixels to fill the larger space. Despite this limitation, bitmapowych images are essential for representing the complexity and detail found in real-world scenes and photographs.
