Bioreseptorin is a term used in some biosensing and synthetic biology contexts to denote a receptor protein that binds a specific molecule and transduces that binding into a measurable signal or cellular response. It can refer to natural receptors found in cells as well as engineered constructs designed to recognize particular ligands with high specificity.

In structure, bioreseptor concepts emphasize modularity: a ligand-binding domain detects the target molecule, while a signaling or transduction domain converts the binding event into an output. Depending on the design, outputs may include changes in gene expression, activation of enzymes, or detectable physical signals such as fluorescence, luminescence, or changes in electrochemical properties. Architectures include GPCR- and RTK-like formats, as well as synthetic binding domains fused to reporter or transcriptional modules.

Applications of bioreseptor systems span diagnostics, environmental sensing, and therapeutic or research tools. In cell-free systems, bioreseptors enable rapid, portable assays. In living cells, engineered bioreseptors can regulate gene circuits in response to specific ligands or act as components of biosensors that report analyte levels.

Research status remains largely at the conceptual and experimental stage, with ongoing work on improving binding specificity, signal transduction efficiency, stability, and minimizing crosstalk. Challenges include ensuring specificity in complex samples, avoiding unwanted immune responses for therapeutic uses, and achieving robust signal-to-noise in real-world conditions.
