Biogenezisével refers to the process by which living organisms arise from non-living matter. This concept has been a subject of scientific inquiry and philosophical debate for centuries. Early theories, such as spontaneous generation, proposed that life could emerge from inanimate substances under certain conditions. For instance, it was believed that maggots could arise from decaying meat or mice from dirty rags.

However, through rigorous experimentation, particularly by scientists like Francesco Redi in the 17th century and later Louis Pasteur in the 19th century, the theory of spontaneous generation was largely disproven. Redi's experiments with meat in sealed and unsealed jars demonstrated that maggots only appeared on meat exposed to flies, suggesting that life came from pre-existing life. Pasteur's swan-neck flask experiments conclusively showed that microorganisms did not spontaneously appear in nutrient broth but were introduced from the air.

The modern scientific understanding of biogenezisével centers on the concept of abiogenesis, which posits that life arose from simple organic molecules that gradually assembled into more complex structures capable of self-replication and metabolism. This process is thought to have occurred on early Earth under very different environmental conditions than those present today. While abiogenesis is not fully understood, research continues to explore potential pathways for the transition from non-living chemistry to the first primitive life forms.
