Biodistributie refers to the movement and distribution of a substance, such as a drug, chemical, or radioisotope, within a biological organism after it has been administered. It encompasses absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME), which are key pharmacokinetic processes. Understanding biodistribution is crucial in fields like pharmacology, toxicology, and nuclear medicine.

When a substance enters the body, it is absorbed into the bloodstream, which then transports it to various tissues and organs. The extent to which a substance reaches a particular tissue depends on factors such as blood flow to that tissue, the substance's ability to cross cell membranes, its affinity for specific tissues, and the presence of barriers like the blood-brain barrier. Some substances may accumulate in certain organs, while others are rapidly distributed throughout the body.

Metabolism, primarily occurring in the liver, transforms the substance into different chemical forms (metabolites), which may be more or less active or toxic than the original compound.
