biconische

Biconische is a Dutch term describing objects with the shape of two congruent right circular cones joined at their bases, forming a symmetrical double-cone figure along a common axis. In English, the equivalent terms are bicone or biconical. The shape consists of two identical cones whose bases are fused into a single circular seam, with apices at opposite ends.

In geometry, if each cone has height h and base radius r, the total height of the bicone is 2h. The volume is V = (2/3) π r^2 h, and the lateral surface area is A = 2 π r sqrt(h^2 + r^2). The shared base is internal, so it does not contribute to the exterior surface area.

Applications and usage: The bicone form appears in various fields. In archaeology, biconical projectile points describe a profile resembling two cones. In jewelry and glassmaking, bicone beads and cut crystals are manufactured to produce two conical ends for facets and symmetry. The term is also used more generally in design and engineering to denote double-ended conical shapes used for aesthetics, fittings, or aerodynamics.
