Betalapachone is a naturally occurring organic compound belonging to the quinone family. It is a derivative of lapachol, a naphthoquinone found in the bark and heartwood of several South American trees, most notably the lapacho tree (Handroanthus impetiginosus). Chemically, betalapachone is characterized by its fused ring structure and the presence of ketone groups.
