It is also employed as a preservative in injectable medications, cosmetics, and personal care products due to its antimicrobial properties. Furthermore, it serves as a precursor in the synthesis of various esters, which are often used as fragrances and flavorings. In some medical applications, it is used as a local anesthetic and antipruritic.
