Belstat, officially the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus and commonly referred to as Belstat, is the state body responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of official statistics for Belarus. It serves as the central authority for data on the economy, population, society, and the environment.

Established in 1991 as the successor to the statistical agencies of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, Belstat operates as a central government institution tasked with census-taking, producing macroeconomic indicators, and compiling demographic and social statistics. It coordinates statistical activities across the country and governs the methodological standards used in Belarusian statistics.

The core functions of Belstat include gathering data from enterprises, government agencies, and households; developing and maintaining statistical methodologies; ensuring data quality and comparability; and protecting the confidentiality of individual information. It also analyzes and publishes statistical results to support public policy, business decision-making, and academic research.

Key outputs comprise quarterly and annual economic indicators, population and housing statistics, labor market data, education and health statistics, environmental statistics, and a range of analytical reports. Belstat produces statistical yearbooks, regional profiles, and census results, with data disseminated through its website and official publications.

Belstat’s organizational structure includes a central office in Minsk and regional data centers, led by a chairman and deputies. It communicates in Belarusian and Russian, with English summaries available for select datasets, and publishes data through belstat.gov.by and various publications.

Internationally, Belstat adheres to statistical standards and participates in cooperation with United Nations, IMF, World Bank, and other organizations to share and harmonize data. It is a primary official source of Belarusian statistics for government, business, researchers, and international partners.
