Ballast production refers to the process of manufacturing the materials used as ballast in various applications, most notably in railway construction. Ballast is a granular material, typically crushed stone, gravel, or slag, that serves as a foundation and drainage layer for railway tracks. Its primary functions include distributing the load of trains to the underlying subgrade, providing stability to the track structure, and allowing for drainage of water.

The production of ballast involves several stages. First, suitable raw materials are selected, often from quarries or other geological deposits. These materials are then crushed and screened to achieve the desired size and shape specifications. The crushing process breaks down larger rocks into smaller pieces, and screening separates these pieces into different size fractions.
