Basiscirkel, literally “base circle” in Dutch, is the circle that forms the base of a solid with a circular base, such as a cylinder or a cone. In two-dimensional terms it is the set of points in a plane at a fixed distance (the radius) from a given center.

In three-dimensional figures, the base circle lies in a plane and is defined by a center O and a radius r. For a right circular cylinder, there are two congruent base circles lying in parallel planes; the axis of the cylinder is perpendicular to these bases. For a right circular cone, the base circle is the circular base, and the apex lies along the axis perpendicular to the base plane.
