Basebandkoodaus, also known as baseband signaling or baseband transmission, refers to the process of transmitting information directly as a time-varying electrical signal over a communication channel without modulation. In baseband transmission, the original signal, which typically occupies a low-frequency range, is sent directly to the medium. This is in contrast to broadband transmission, where the original signal is modulated onto a carrier wave of a much higher frequency before transmission.

Baseband communication is characterized by the fact that the entire bandwidth of the communication channel is dedicated to a single signal at any given time. This means that multiple signals cannot be transmitted simultaneously over the same channel using baseband techniques. Common examples of baseband transmission include Ethernet Local Area Networks (LANs) and serial communication interfaces like RS-232.
