baryes
Baryes is a unit of pressure in the centimetre-gram-second (CGS) system of units, which is also known as the Gaussian system. It is named after the French mathematician Pierre Simon Laplace, who is often referred to as Barye. One barye is equal to one dyne per square centimeter (dyn/cm²). The barye is not commonly used in modern scientific practice, as the pascal (Pa) is the standard unit of pressure in the International System of Units (SI). One pascal is equal to ten baryes. The barye is still occasionally used in fields such as geophysics and meteorology, particularly when discussing the pressure of the Earth's atmosphere or the pressure within the Earth's crust. Despite its historical significance, the barye has largely been replaced by the pascal in contemporary scientific literature and applications.
