Autoregulació refers to the capacity of an organism or system to maintain a stable internal environment despite external fluctuations. This self-regulatory process is fundamental to survival and involves complex feedback mechanisms. In biological contexts, autoregulation allows for the maintenance of homeostasis, such as regulating body temperature, blood sugar levels, or blood pressure. For example, when body temperature rises, physiological responses like sweating are triggered to cool the body down, returning it to its set point. Conversely, when the temperature drops, shivering generates heat.

This principle extends beyond biology. In economics, autoregulation describes market mechanisms that naturally adjust supply and demand without external intervention. For instance, if the price of a good is too high, demand may decrease, leading producers to lower prices to sell their inventory. In psychology, autoregulation pertains to an individual's ability to manage their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to achieve goals or adapt to situations. This includes self-control, impulse inhibition, and emotional regulation. Essentially, autoregulation is a universal concept describing self-governing systems that strive for equilibrium.
