Assoittaatiot are a type of folk tradition found primarily in the indigenous Sami communities of northern Scandinavia. The term "assoittaatiot" is a Finnish word that roughly translates to "acts of agrarian magic".

In traditional Sami culture, assoittaatiot were ceremonies designed to promote fertility and ensure successful agricultural productivity. These rituals were typically performed by the community's spiritual leaders or shamans, who would invoke the spirits of the land, ancestors, and natural elements to ensure a bountiful harvest.

Assoittaatiot involved the use of various ancient dietary habits and potions to enhance fertility in the land and crops. This could include performing specific rituals with plants and berries, singling songs, and making offering to the gods and goddesses of agriculture.

The assoittaatiot tradition also included singing and chanting, fertility dances, and communing with nature to seek guidance and blessings. It is argued that through the communal rituals of assoittaatiot, the Sami tribes gained control over their agricultural destiny and became closely connected to the environment, preserving harmony between people and nature.

Unfortunately, as with other indigenous traditions, the assoittaatiot practices gradually vanished with the imposition of Christianity and other religions, and other forms of cultural and historical changes that accompanied the conversion of the indigenous population to the dominant Scandinavian culture. Nonetheless, the restored interest in traditional indigenous cultures has largely contributed to a revival of interest in this charming and beautiful tradition.
