Arenat is a fictional mineral invoked in world-building and speculative fiction as a rare translucent silicate with unusual electrical and magnetic properties. It is not known to exist in the real world, and references to it appear in fictional texts and games as a plot device.

The name arenat is derived from archaism around sand and the common mineral suffix -at. In some sources it is also called arenite or arenate, but those terms refer to different materials in the real world.

In canonical depictions, arenat forms hexagonal crystals, color ranging from pale amber to light green, with hardness around 6 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity near 3.2. It is described as having high thermal conductivity and low electrical resistance when pure.

Formation and occurrence: Arenat is said to form under high-pressure metamorphic conditions in the crust of a fictional planet, often in subduction-zone belts where fluids metasomatize rocks. It is depicted as scarce, occurring in veins within host rock, and often associated with other fictional minerals.

Uses and cultural role: In stories, arenat is valued for energy storage, potential superconductivity, or as a gemstone in ceremonial contexts. Its rarity and handling requirements are common plot points.
