Archivehas is a collaborative, open-source digital archiving platform and corpus of best practices designed to support the management, preservation, and access of archival materials across libraries, archives, and museums. It provides a unified repository model for born-digital and digitized items, including manuscripts, photographs, audio, video, datasets, and web archives, with tools for ingest, description, preservation planning, and access.

The project emphasizes interoperability through open standards. Its metadata model combines Dublin Core with preservation-focused elements from PREMIS and METS, while packaging follows METS conventions. Metadata and content are accessible via interfaces compatible with OAI-PMH for harvesting and IIIF for image and media delivery, and data can be linked using RDF or JSON-LD.

Archivehas supports long-term preservation through checksums, fixity monitoring, format normalization, and versioning of records. It offers workflow features for appraisal, rights statements, access control, and embargo management, enabling both open access and restricted materials as required by institutions.

Community governance is central to the project. It is developed by a consortium of libraries, archives, museums, and research institutions, with an open governance model and public code hosting. Contributions are made under an open-source license, and the community coordinates through forums, working groups, and shared documentation.

Archivehas aims to foster interoperability and knowledge sharing across archival ecosystems, providing a scalable solution for institutions seeking durable access to culturally and historically significant materials. It is positioned as a flexible foundation for local deployments and collaborative national or international archive initiatives.
