Apriorinen is a term derived from Latin, meaning "from the former" or "from what comes before." In philosophy, it refers to knowledge that is independent of experience. This means that apriorinen truths can be known without needing to observe the world or gather empirical evidence. Instead, their justification comes from reason alone.

A classic example of apriorinen knowledge is mathematical or logical truths. For instance, the statement "all bachelors are unmarried" is considered apriorinen because its truth is contained within the definitions of the words used. We don't need to go out and survey bachelors to confirm they are unmarried; the concept of "unmarried" is inherent in the definition of "bachelor." Similarly, mathematical statements like "2 + 2 = 4" are understood through logical deduction and the inherent properties of numbers, not through repeated experimentation.

The concept of apriorinen knowledge is central to rationalist philosophies, which emphasize the role of reason in acquiring knowledge. It stands in contrast to aposteriorinen knowledge, which is derived from sensory experience. While apriorinen knowledge is considered certain and universal, aposteriorinen knowledge is contingent and can be revised based on new observations. The distinction between these two types of knowledge has been a significant topic of debate in epistemology for centuries.
