Antitrombotsed is a term used in some medical texts to denote therapies and measures that prevent or treat thrombosis by reducing blood clot formation. Thrombosis refers to the formation of clots within blood vessels, which can obstruct blood flow and lead to conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, heart attack, and ischemic stroke. Antitrombotsed strategies target coagulation pathways, platelet activity, or clot dissolution, depending on the clinical situation.

The term encompasses several therapeutic approaches. Anticoagulants, including heparin, warfarin, and direct oral anticoagulants such as apixaban, rivaroxaban, dabigatran, and edoxaban, inhibit components of the coagulation cascade to prevent clot formation. Antiplatelet drugs, such as aspirin and P2Y12 inhibitors like clopidogrel, ticagrelor, and prasugrel, reduce platelet aggregation to lower the risk of arterial thrombosis. Indications for antitrombotsed therapy include atrial fibrillation to prevent stroke, venous thromboembolism to prevent recurrence, coronary artery disease and acute coronary syndromes, and perioperative prophylaxis to reduce postoperative clots. Side effects chiefly involve bleeding risk, which requires careful patient selection, dosing, and monitoring.
