Ankara is the capital and second-largest city of Turkey, located in the central Anatolia region. It serves as the political, administrative, and diplomatic center of the country. The city has a long history dating back to ancient times, with early settlements known as Ancyra under the Hellenistic and Roman periods. It became the capital of the Turkish Republic in 1923, replacing Istanbul, under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
