Animácie, often referred to as animation, is the process of creating the illusion of motion and change by displaying a sequence of static images or frames. These images, when viewed in rapid succession, trick the human eye into perceiving continuous movement. This fundamental principle is at the heart of all animated works, from traditional hand-drawn cartoons to sophisticated computer-generated imagery.

The history of animation stretches back to early optical toys like the zoetrope and praxinoscope in the 19th century. These devices demonstrated the concept of persistence of vision, where the brain retains an image for a fraction of a second after it disappears, allowing for the perception of movement when images are rapidly alternated. Early cinematic animation began in the early 20th century with techniques like stop-motion, where physical objects are moved incrementally between individually photographed frames, and cel animation, which involved drawing each frame of movement on transparent celluloid sheets.

Modern animation encompasses a wide array of techniques. Computer animation, or CGI, has revolutionized the field, allowing for incredibly complex and realistic visuals. This includes 2D digital animation, where drawings are created and manipulated on computers, and 3D animation, which builds virtual models and animates them within a digital space.
