Angiografiska describes anything pertaining to angiography, the medical imaging technique used to visualize the lumen of blood vessels and organs of the circulatory system. In Swedish medical terminology, angiografiska is the adjectival form derived from angiografi (angiography) and is used to characterize imaging methods, findings, or protocols related to this technique.

Angiography involves introducing a radiopaque contrast agent into the vascular system and acquiring images with X-ray, CT, or magnetic resonance modalities. The primary purpose is to identify occlusions, stenoses, aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations and other vascular abnormalities, as well as to guide endovascular therapies.

Common forms include invasive catheter-based angiography, where a catheter is threaded to the vessels and radiographic contrast is injected under fluoroscopy; and non-invasive alternatives such as CT angiography and MR angiography (MRA). Digital subtraction angiography is a key technique used to enhance vascular detail on X-ray images.

Contrast agents used are usually iodinated for CT or gadolinium-based for MR, though some X-ray angiography uses iodinated contrast as well. Risks include radiation exposure, nephrotoxicity from contrast, allergic reactions, and vascular complications at access sites.

Angiografiska techniques have evolved from early carotid and cerebral angiography in the early 20th century to modern digitally subtracted and non-invasive modalities, improving spatial resolution and safety.
