Amplitudimuutokselle refers to the concept of amplitude modulation in Finnish. Amplitude modulation is a technique used in electronic communication, most commonly for transmitting information via a radio wave. In amplitude modulation, the amplitude of a carrier wave is varied in proportion to the message signal being transmitted. The carrier wave is a high-frequency sinusoidal wave that is used to carry the information. The message signal, which is typically a lower-frequency waveform representing audio or other data, is superimposed onto the carrier wave by changing its amplitude.

This process is achieved using a modulator circuit. The output of the modulator is a signal where the carrier wave's amplitude fluctuates according to the instantaneous amplitude of the message signal. At the receiving end, a demodulator circuit is used to extract the original message signal from the modulated carrier wave. This is typically done by rectifying the received signal and then filtering out the high-frequency carrier component, leaving the original message signal.

Amplitude modulation is a relatively simple and inexpensive method for transmitting signals, which made it popular in early radio broadcasting. However, it has limitations. It is susceptible to noise and interference, which can distort the amplitude of the carrier wave and thus corrupt the transmitted information. Furthermore, amplitude-modulated signals are not very power-efficient, as a significant portion of the transmitted power is in the carrier wave itself, which does not carry information. Despite these drawbacks, amplitude modulation is still used in certain applications, such as in aviation communications and some low-frequency radio bands.
