It is a type of ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecule that has been chemically linked to a specific amino acid. Transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules are the adapters that bridge the genetic code carried by messenger RNA (mRNA) and the amino acid sequence of a protein. Each tRNA molecule has a unique anticodon loop that recognizes and binds to a complementary codon on the mRNA. Simultaneously, the other end of the tRNA molecule is charged with its corresponding amino acid. This charging process, known as aminoacylation, is catalyzed by enzymes called aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases. There is a specific aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase for each of the 20 standard amino acids.
