Aluminiseerimine, also known as aluminizing, is a surface treatment process where a layer of aluminum is applied to a substrate material, typically steel. This process is primarily employed to enhance the corrosion resistance and high-temperature oxidation resistance of the base metal. The aluminum layer forms a protective barrier against environmental degradation.

There are several methods for performing aluminising. One common technique is hot-dip aluminizing, where the substrate is immersed in a bath of molten aluminum. Another method is diffusion aluminizing, which involves heating the substrate in a pack containing aluminum powder and an activator. This allows aluminum to diffuse into the surface of the substrate, creating an intermetallic layer. Physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) can also be used to apply aluminum coatings.

The resulting aluminum layer provides excellent protection against oxidation, especially at elevated temperatures. This makes aluminised steel suitable for applications such as exhaust systems, heat exchangers, and components used in high-temperature industrial environments. The aluminised coating also offers some resistance to atmospheric corrosion, though its primary benefit lies in its high-temperature performance. The thickness and composition of the aluminised layer can be controlled to tailor the properties for specific applications.
