Altifalante is the Portuguese word for loudspeaker. A loudspeaker, also known as a speaker, is a device that converts electrical audio signals into sound waves. It is a fundamental component of most audio systems, used in everything from home stereo systems and car audio to public address systems and musical instruments.

The basic principle of a loudspeaker involves an electromagnet and a diaphragm. An electrical audio signal is sent through a coil of wire attached to the diaphragm. This coil is placed within a magnetic field generated by a permanent magnet. As the electrical signal fluctuates, the coil moves back and forth within the magnetic field. This movement causes the diaphragm, which is typically made of a cone-shaped material, to vibrate. These vibrations create pressure waves in the surrounding air, which we perceive as sound.

Different types of loudspeakers exist, designed for specific frequency ranges. Woofers are designed to reproduce low-frequency sounds (bass), mid-range speakers handle middle frequencies, and tweeters are responsible for high-frequency sounds (treble). These are often combined in multi-way speaker systems to provide a broader and more accurate reproduction of the entire audio spectrum. The quality of a loudspeaker depends on factors such as its materials, construction, size, and the enclosure it is housed in.
