Alltagswirklichkeit is a concept used in German-speaking sociology and philosophy to describe the taken-for-granted, practical reality of everyday life. It refers to how people experience, interpret, and act in ordinary situations, often without explicit reflection, relying on routine, social norms, language, and practical know-how. The term emphasizes that reality is not only a set of facts but also a lived world shaped by perception, practice, and social interaction.

The alltagswirklichkeit comprises several interconnected elements: daily routines and schedules, habitual ways of handling objects and technologies, language and shared meanings, social roles and norms, and the material environment in which people operate. It is produced and reproduced through ongoing interactions, institutional structures, and cultural assumptions. In phenomenology and related approaches, this everyday world is seen as more fundamental than abstract theories because it is where action and understanding actually occur. Related concepts in the field include the Lebenswelt (lifeworld) and habitus, which describe how dispositions and socialized practices channel perception and behavior in daily life.

Researchers study alltagswirklichkeit to understand how social order is maintained, how meaning is negotiated in ordinary interactions, and how changes in technology, economy, or culture reshape daily life.
