Alkuaineryhmä refers to a group of elements in chemistry that share similar chemical properties due to having the same number of valence electrons. These groups are typically found in vertical columns on the periodic table. The most prominent example is the alkali metals, which are found in Group 1 of the periodic table, excluding hydrogen. These elements, such as lithium, sodium, and potassium, are highly reactive metals that readily lose their single valence electron to form positive ions. Another well-known group is the alkaline earth metals in Group 2, which are also reactive but generally less so than alkali metals.
Other important alkaliaineryhmät include the halogens (Group 17) and the noble gases (Group 18). Halogens are
