Alkenynes are a class of organic compounds that contain both a carbon-carbon double bond and a carbon-carbon triple bond within the same molecule. They are also known as enynes. The general formula for a non-cyclic alkynene with one double and one triple bond is CnH2n-2. The presence of both functional groups makes alkenynes highly reactive and versatile in organic synthesis.

The double and triple bonds in an alkynene can be positioned in various ways relative to each other. Alkenynes can be synthesized through various methods, including the partial hydrogenation of diynes or alkadiynes, or by elimination reactions from suitable precursors. They find applications in the synthesis of complex organic molecules, polymers, and materials. The unique electronic structure arising from the conjugation of double and triple bonds can also lead to interesting photophysical properties.
