Albedoja is a term used to denote albedo, the fraction of incident electromagnetic radiation that a surface reflects. It is a dimensionless quantity, typically ranging from 0 (perfect absorber) to 1 (perfect reflector), and is often expressed as a percentage. Several related concepts are distinguished in practice: geometric albedo, which describes reflectivity at zero phase angle; hemispherical albedo, which accounts for reflection into all directions; and spectral albedo, which depends on wavelength.

In planetary science and climatology, albedoja is used to characterize surface properties—from snow, ice, and deserts to vegetation and urban materials—and to infer physical attributes such as texture, composition, and moisture. It also plays a central role in Earth's energy balance: high-albedo surfaces reflect more solar energy and tend to cool the surface, while low-albedo surfaces absorb more energy and can contribute to warming. Albedoja is not constant; it varies with sun angle, wavelength, season, and surface state (for example, snowpack, wetness, or vegetation). Measurements combine satellite observations of spectral reflectance, airborne campaigns, and ground-based spectroradiometry, often integrated through radiative-transfer models.

Applications span climate research, solar energy planning, and urban design, where the choice or engineering of materials aims to modulate albedo to manage heat loads and energy use.
