Alamanne is a term that historically referred to a Germanic people and later to a specific region in what is now southwestern Germany and eastern France. The Alamanne people, whose name likely means "all men" or "all people," emerged as a confederation of Germanic tribes during the Roman Empire. They are first recorded in the 3rd century CE, often in conflict with the Roman Empire along the Rhine frontier. Their migrations and settlements led to their presence in areas that would become Alsace, parts of Switzerland, and Swabia.
Over time, the term "Alamanne" became associated with the duchy of Alemannia, a significant political entity
