aksusatif

Aksusatif is the grammatical case used to mark direct objects in languages that employ an accusative alignment. In English, the term corresponds to the accusative case, and in some linguistic traditions the spelling “aksusatif” is used as the local name for this case.

In languages with nominative-accusative alignment, the subject of both intransitive and transitive verbs is treated similarly (nominative), while the direct object receives the aksusatif. The morphological realization of the aksusatif varies by language: it can be a suffix attached to nouns or pronouns (as in Turkish), a change in the article or noun form (as in German or Russian), or a separate word or clitic in analytic languages.

The aksusatif often interacts with factors such as definiteness, animacy, or definiteness, and some languages employ differential object marking where the case is used only with certain objects. Not all languages that express object properties with an aksusatif form rely on explicit marking for all objects; some rely more on word order, prepositions, or pronoun clitics.
