Aisthtikos is a transliteration of the Greek aisthētikos (αισθητικός), an adjective meaning pertaining to perception, sensation, or aesthetics. The root aisthēsis means sense or perception, and the suffix -ikos yields “pertaining to” or “characterized by.” The term gives rise to the English word aesthetics (and esthetics) via Latin aesthetica.

In philosophy, aisthētikos is linked to the study of sensory experience, beauty, and art. In classical Greek thought, discussions of perception and the arts often invoked related notions of aisthēsis, aisthētikos, and kalos (the beautiful).
