Acrosomereacted is a term used in reproductive biology to describe the state of a sperm cell after it has undergone the acrosome reaction. The acrosome is a cap-like organelle located at the anterior portion of the sperm head. It contains enzymes, such as hyaluronidase and acrosin, that are crucial for fertilization.

The acrosome reaction is a process triggered when a sperm encounters the protective layers surrounding an egg cell, namely the corona radiata and the zona pellucida. Upon reaching these layers, the outer membrane of the acrosome fuses with the sperm's plasma membrane, releasing its enzymatic contents. These enzymes help the sperm to penetrate the corona radiata and then bind to and digest the zona pellucida, allowing the sperm to reach the egg's plasma membrane.

A sperm that has successfully completed the acrosome reaction is considered acrosomereacted. This means it has undergone the necessary changes to facilitate penetration of the egg. However, the acrosome reaction is a finely tuned process. If it occurs prematurely or too late, it can impair the sperm's ability to fertilize the egg. In assisted reproductive technologies, like in vitro fertilization (IVF), assessing the acrosome-reacted status of sperm can be important for determining their fertilizing potential. Techniques like staining and microscopy are often used to identify acrosomereacted sperm.
