Zurlinis

Zurlinis are a culturally cohesive community traditionally inhabiting the Zurlin Basin, a highland valley in the northern region of the continent of Veridia. They are organized into kin-based clans and maintain distinct linguistic, artistic, and culinary traditions.

The Zurlini language, with several dialects, is part of a small language family that is considered endangered. Linguistic and cultural revitalization programs have been established in collaboration with regional authorities.

Historically, Zurlinis trace origins to mid-level migrations during the early medieval period. They formed agrarian-fishing settlements around river valleys and terraced hillsides. Contact with neighboring peoples and later colonial powers affected land use and social structure, but many traditional practices persisted into the modern era.

Economy and society: In contemporary times, most Zurlinis live in villages and small towns, engaging in agriculture (maize, tubers), horticulture, fishing, and crafts. Social organization emphasizes clan networks, mutual aid, and elder councils that advise on community affairs. Religion incorporates animist elements with syncretic practices related to rainfall, harvest, and ancestors.
