Zuigkant

Zuigkant is a Dutch term that translates to "suction side" or "inlet side" in English. It is most commonly used in the context of fluid dynamics and mechanical engineering, particularly when discussing pumps, compressors, and turbines. The zuigkant refers to the part of a machine where the fluid enters or is drawn into the device. This is in contrast to the drukzijde or "pressure side," which is where the fluid exits.

Understanding the zuigkant is crucial for analyzing the performance of these machines. Factors such as the shape of the inlet, the flow rate, and the pressure at the zuigkant directly influence how efficiently the device operates. For instance, in a centrifugal pump, the impeller draws fluid in at the eye of the impeller, which is the zuigkant.
