Zuiganji
Zuiganji is a Zen Buddhist temple located in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Founded in 828 by Jikaku Daishi, it is one of the most prominent Zen temples in the Tohoku region. The current buildings were largely reconstructed in 1609 by Date Masamune, a powerful feudal lord. Zuiganji is renowned for its exquisite gardens, which are designed in the dry landscape (karesansui) style, and for the colorful paintings that adorn the sliding doors of its main hall and living quarters. These paintings, created by the artist Tosa Takanobu, depict scenes from Buddhist scriptures and nature.
The temple grounds also feature a moss garden and a bamboo grove, contributing to its serene atmosphere.
