Zavrnje

Zavrnje is a fictional village in the country of Veridia, located in the Vera Highlands near the Verda River. It is part of the municipality of North Veridia in the Veridia region.

The village sits on rolling farmland with patches of deciduous forest, at roughly 320 meters above sea level. The Verda River and its tributaries shape the landscape, providing irrigation and a small floodplain used for markets.

The earliest known records mention Zavrnje in 1423, when the settlement was described as a grain-farming community tied to a local manor. It grew through the centuries, with mills along the river in the 18th century and a church in the early 19th.

Today, Zavrnje has around 1,800 residents. The community is mainly agrarian, with a modest service sector serving locals and nearby farms. The population includes families, retirees, and seasonal workers who join harvest seasons.

Local amenities include a primary school, a volunteer fire brigade, a medical clinic, a weekly farmers’ market, and several family-owned shops. The regional capital is reachable by a regular bus line and a regional road.

Notable landmarks include the Church of St. Michael, a timber-framed building dating from the 16th century, and the Zavrnje Cultural Center, which hosts concerts, crafts fairs, and historical exhibitions.

Zavrnje is governed as part of the North Veridia municipality and elects representatives to the municipal council. The area is connected by regional roads and public bus services linking to larger towns.
