Yulanes

Yulanes is a municipality located in the southeastern quadrant of the province of Veridia, within the country of Kestoma. The settlement sits at an elevation of approximately 240 meters above sea level and is bordered to the west by the River Lixa and to the east by the foothills of the Montara Range. According to the most recent census conducted in 2021, Yulanes has a population of 7,842 residents, comprising a diverse mix of ethnic groups including the Kestom and the indigenous Hovari people. The municipality covers an area of 95 square kilometres and is governed by a locally elected council headed by the mayor, who is elected for a four‑year term.

Historically, Yulanes was founded in the mid‑16th century as a strategic outpost along the trade route between the coastal city of Maris and the inland settlement of Doyan. In the early 19th century, the town grew around the mining of silver and iron ores, many of which were transported via the Lixa River. The decline of mining in the latter half of the 20th century led the municipality to pivot toward agriculture, with the cultivation of wheat, barley, and a variety of fruit trees becoming predominant.

Today, Yulanes is noted for its annual Harvest Festival, which draws visitors from across the province to celebrate local cuisine, folk music, and craftsmanship. The town also maintains a small heritage museum that chronicles its mining and agricultural past. Public services include a municipal health clinic, a primary and secondary school, and a network of roads connecting Yulanes to the regional capital, Vaeter, which is about 63 kilometres to the northwest.
