In Finland, yksikköhinta is typically shown on price labels next to the total price, using units like €/kg, €/l, or €/kpl.

Calculation and interpretation are straightforward: divide the total price by the amount or volume of the product. For example, a 1.5-liter bottle priced at 3.60 euros has a unit price of 3.60 ÷ 1.5 = 2.40 €/l. A 500-gram package priced at 1.19 euros yields 1.19 ÷ 0.5 = 2.38 €/kg. The base quantity used for the unit price is the packaging’s stated standard amount.

Regulatory context and usage: unit price labeling supports price transparency and consumer choice. It is commonly displayed for groceries, beverages, and other goods sold in prepackaged form, facilitating quick comparison when sizes vary. The unit price is typically calculated from the packaging’s stated base quantity, and retailers are expected to update it when prices or package sizes change.
