Yieldsutbytte is a term that blends the English word yield with the Norwegian word utbytte, which means dividend. It is not a standard term in Norwegian financial literature, but may be encountered in bilingual contexts where the idea of dividend income return is discussed using a hybrid expression. In most Norwegian sources, the concept is usually referred to as utbytteavkastning.

The core idea behind yieldsutbytte is the dividend yield: the income returned to investors as dividends relative to the price of the share or fund. It is calculated as the annual dividends per share divided by the current price per share, and is typically expressed as a percentage. Analysts distinguish between trailing yields, based on the most recent year’s dividends (TTM), and forward yields, based on expected future dividends.

Yieldsutbytte is used to compare income-generating potential across investments. A higher yield suggests a larger cash return relative to price, which can be attractive to income-focused investors. However, a high yield can also indicate higher risk or an unsustainable dividend, so it should be assessed together with factors such as earnings coverage, payout ratio, dividend history, and the company’s financial health.
