Yemjas

Yemjas is a fictional sovereign state used here for illustrative purposes. It is set in the imaginary continent of Asteria, spanning roughly 42,000 square kilometers and bordered by temperate highlands to the north, river valleys in the interior, and a short eastern coastline along the Serene Sea. The capital is Lomar, where the central government is seated. The population is about 3.2 million, and the official language is Yemjansi, with minority communities speaking Malari and Serari.

The name Yemjas is believed to derive from an ancient Yemji word for valley. The Yemjansi people form the majority, with several minority ethnic groups making up the remainder. Religions are diverse, including traditional practices, Islam, Christianity, and smaller local faiths. The society is characterized by a mix of rural and urban communities, with family and community networks playing a central role.

Geographically, Yemjas features temperate climates in the highlands and more arid conditions in the eastern plains. The major rivers include the Morin and the Tisal, which support agriculture and small-scale hydroelectric projects. The coast provides limited port facilities that support regional trade.

Politically, Yemjas is a parliamentary republic with a presidency as ceremonial head of state and a prime minister as head of government. The unicameral legislature comprises about 110 seats, elected under proportional representation. The legal framework is based on a written constitution enacted in the mid-20th century, with ongoing reforms to deepen civil liberties and judicial independence.

Administratively, the country is divided into 12 provinces. The economy is diversified, emphasizing agriculture (notably yams, maize, and millet), light manufacturing, and services.
