Ydinpyöriminen refers to the phenomenon of nuclear spin rotation in atomic nuclei. This quantum mechanical property describes the intrinsic angular momentum of a nucleus. While the term "pyöriminen" (rotation) is used for simplicity, it's important to understand that it's not a literal physical rotation of the nucleus in the classical sense. Nuclei with a non-zero spin possess a magnetic dipole moment, making them behave like tiny magnets.

When radiofrequency pulses are applied, the nuclei absorb and re-emit energy at specific frequencies, which are detected and analyzed to provide information about the molecular structure and dynamics.
