Wuliangye

Wuliangye is a renowned Chinese baijiu produced by Wuliangye Yibin Co., Ltd., in Yibin, Sichuan. It is one of China's best-known baijiu brands and a hallmark of the strong-aroma category. The name refers to the five cereals used in production: sorghum, rice, glutinous rice, corn, and wheat. The flagship variant is typically classified as a strong-aroma (nongxiang) baijiu and is usually bottle at about 52% alcohol by volume.

Production combines solid-state fermentation of a five-grain mash in large earthenware vessels or pits, followed by multiple-distillation. The resulting distillate is aged and blended to achieve a consistent flagship style. The aroma is described as rich and complex, with fruity, floral, and nutty notes, balanced by a long, mellow finish.

History and company structure: The Wuliangye brand has its roots in distilleries of Yibin dating to the early 20th century. In the mid-20th century regional producers merged to form the Wuliangye brand, and the company has since undergone restructuring and modernization. Today it operates as Wuliangye Yibin Co., Ltd., a publicly traded enterprise in China.

Market presence and reception: Wuliangye is widely consumed at official banquets, celebrations, and social gatherings across China and in international markets. It has received multiple awards at domestic and international spirits competitions and remains one of the most recognizable names in Chinese liquor.
