Wulfnoth
Wulfnoth, also known as Wulfnoth Cild, was a legendary king of the West Saxons, a subgroup of the Anglo-Saxons. He is primarily known for his role in the Battle of the River Idle, which took place in 577 AD. Wulfnoth was the son of Cynric, the first king of the West Saxons, and his wife, Cyneburh. His father had been killed by his brother Ceawlin, who then became king. Wulfnoth, along with his mother and brother Cutha, fled to Kent, where they sought the help of Æthelberht, the king of Kent.
Æthelberht agreed to support Wulfnoth and his family, and together they invaded Mercia, the kingdom of Ceawlin.
